Basketball Homecoming and Senior Night Results

Saturday night, the Fox basketball teams celebrated homecoming prior to their final regular season games against Alex. The homecoming court for this year for the Foxes were Seniors Dillon Langley and Justin Cornelius along with Junior William Lovely. The girls candidates were Seniors Catie Spigner, Anissa McConnell and Patten Shepherd. The winners of the 2011-2012 homecoming were Dillon Langley and Catie Spigner. Oh yeah, and then, there were basketball games to be played!

In the opening game, the Lady Foxes (10-12) were flat for most of the game scoring in single digits every quarter and unfortunately, dropping their contest to the Lady Longhorns, 40-24. In defeat the Lady Foxes were lead in scoring by Keyanndra Young with 17 points. Coach Spigner said, "With all of the distractions of homecoming, we didn't play up to the standard we are used to playing. We will be focused on basketball for districts."

In between games, the Lady Foxes and Foxes celebrated Senior Night. In all there were 11 Senior basketball players and cheerleaders that celebrated their final home basketball game.

Then, the Fox Foxes (15-7) took on the Alex Longhorns in the nightcap. The Foxes started a little slow leading only 23-15 at the half, but pulled away in the second to cruise to a 56-33 victory. In the victory, the Foxes were lead in scoring by Chris Spigner with 17 and Justin Cornelius with 12 points. Coach Yeiser said, "It's good to be on a roll going into districts. You want to be playing your best ball this time of year and I think we are getting to that point. We aren't there yet, but we are on the right track."

Districts are up next for the Lady Foxes and Fox Foxes. They both play "win or go home" games this coming Friday at Turner starting at 6:30PM. The Fox Lady Foxes play the Velma-Alma Lady Comets and the Fox Foxes will play the Turner Falcons. Make the trip to Turner to watch your Fox hoopsters in the 2011-2012 playoffs.

Fantastic Fox Finish!

Thursday's season finale of the Fox Lady Foxes Junior High campaign came down to the final shot. Trailing 18-13 with a little over a minute left to the Waurika Lady Eagles, the Lady Foxes showed their "Fight"ing spirit. After Hollie Tiger hit two free throws to bring the score to 18-17, she stole the ball at half court with four seconds left on the clock. After the time out, Kristy Clubb hit the game winning shot as time expired! The Lady Foxes ended the season on a 2 game winning streak. Coach Spigner said, "The future is bright for the Lady Foxes basketball program. These girls (8th and 9th graders) don't get a lot of practice time together. With a lot of time and dedication, I believe this team can achieve great things in the future."

HEADED TO STATE!

FCCLA Members Kaylee Schier and Anissa McConnell

On Tuesday, FCCLA members Kaylee Schier and Anissa McConnell competed against other local FCCLA chapters at the FCCLA STAR Regionals in Weatherfod to see who would be the duo to move on to the State Competition in March. To win the competition, the dynamic duo had to compete in life and event planning which involved planning a trip to Cancun and presenting a 5-10 minute speech.

From here, Anissa and Kaylee will move on to Stillwater to compete against other FCCLA chapters from across the state and if they can win this go around, they will move on to Nationals in Orlando, Florida in June. "As far as I know this is the first time we have ever had anyone make it this far." Mrs. Jones says. "Anissa and Kaylee have worked hard to get this point."

Good luck, Anissa and Kaylee!
