The band went to SCOBDA in November. What is SCOBDA you ask? It stands for South Central Oklahoma Band Director Association and is a honor band. The people that went were April Shepherd-3rd Alternate, Samantha Wright-1st Tenor Sax, Morgan Phelps-1st Chair Clarinet, Derrek Sellers-8th Chair Jr. High Trumpet. They went back to SCOBDA for the clinic on January 7-8. There were 23 schools there and the audition was at Healdton and the clinic was at Marietta.

The Pig Dissection Will Be Soon
By Kaylee Schier and Tyler Townsend
The students that are enrolled in Mr. McCartney's Biology class will be getting to start fetal pig dissection around next week. In this class, there are 17 students so he will be pairing them up with a partner to do this lab.
The reason why Mr. McCartney chose to do the fetal pigs is because they are so much like the human body. In doing this dissection you will get to see all parts of the fetal pig. This dissection will take about six days to complete. Mr. McCartney says proudly, "I enjoy getting to see students doing this dissection, the students enjoy it also, and it is an inquiring method of teaching."
During our interview we asked if there were any funny stories that he remembers the most. Mr. McCartney's response was, "there was one girl that passed out because she was so stressed out about cutting through skin." This dissection is a good thing to do because you get to learn where everything is, see it, and learn even more about how it works.

Humanities Class new project
By Catie Spigner and Miami Sumbadze
It is hard to figure out who you are and who you are going to be in your life, especially when you are a teenager. Last Wednesday, the Humanities class started working on their new project. They created mobiles illustrated with objects, how they see themselves and how other people might label them. Mrs. Kinsey is glad with her class work, as she stated, "Its fun to think about the objects that represent you. The kids really enjoyed doing this."
Everybody participated in this project, but none of the mobiles were the same. Some of them used sports related items, some of them just found out how romantic they were, and some even tried to show their "secret power" to represent themselves as a traditional cowboy. As one of Mrs Kinsey's student Chris Spigner says,"I love it, i wish i could do this every time. It was very easy for me." It seems like Chris really knows himself and also has the talent to let people know about his personality, but others faced challenges. In Jennifer Lahman's words,"It's fun but a little bit challenging to figure out who you really are and how people see you."

Ag in 2011!
by Mayara Carreiro and Jessica Schmidt
The new semester started so did a new semester for the Ag Department. We have a lot of things going on and coming up. At the moment Mr. Kirkpatrick is getting ready for the labor auction in early February, which should be a lot of fun. In March, there will be livestock shows and they are getting ready! In April, there is the judging contest and the state convention.
So FFA it's time to buckle down and get to work!
