The Fox Lady Foxes and Fox Foxes ended the 2011 portion of the basketball season this past Friday night at Bray-Doyle. The Lady Foxes dug a hole too deep to get out of in the first half, losing 50-26. Coach Spigner said, "We looked sluggish and not ready to play. We played better in the second half, but not good enough for me and not good enough for the girls." In defeat, the Lady Foxes were lead in scoring by Keyanndra Young with 13 points.

The boys started and finished strong, dominating the Donkeys, 64-30. Justin Cornelius was the high point Fox with 17 points with Chris Spigner chipping in 12 and Dillon Langley adding 10. Coach Yeiser said, "We played solid and aggressive. The guys are playing better every game and that is what we are looking for."

The Lady Foxes were lead in scoring by Keyanndra Young and Catie Spigner both with 11 points and Patten Shepherd with 9 points.

In the high school boys game, missed opportunities against a fundamentally sound Walters team spelled a defeat for the Fox boys. After keeping it close in the first quarter, the Blue Devils gradually pulled away in the second half. In defeat, the Foxes were lead in scoring by Chris Spigner with 11 points and Keaton Argo with 7 points.

High School Basketball Girls Preview

By Cici Lofton

The Lady Foxes are back and ready for action! Starting off the season tonight at Fox at 6:30PM against the rival Healdton Bulldogs. Head Coach Kenney Spigner says,
"I feel that we have the potential to be good, we had a really successful summer, we're pretty anxious to stop playing each other and play another team, my expectations and the girls is Gold ball or bust! I feel that we'll do well tonight, but first games are always different, the players have adrenaline flowing through them, it'll probably be a little sloppy at first but I expect for us to play well."

Go Lady Foxes & Fox Foxes beat the Bulldogs!

Day Games?

Tomorrow, November 30th, there will be 6th-7th and 8th-9th grade games starting at Noon. We asked Mr. Williams, the athletic director, what the reason was for starting the games at noon. He replied, "That would be the only time that both teams would be able to play. Also, it will allow our students to have a chance to watch their classmates play." This will be the only home game scheduled during school hours.

Come out and support your Junior High Foxes and Lady Foxes!!

High School Basketball Boys Preview

By Keaton Argo, Dalton Langley, Dillon Langley

It does not seem possible, but the 2011-2012 basketball season is upon us at Fox. It is not only a new season, but the Fox boys have a new coach. Coach Erik Yeiser will take over as the head coach of the Foxes this season. We asked him a few questions about this season.

"We have a good athletic group of guys that should be able to run an up tempo style of basketball which is what I like, we lack an overall team size we will have to get people in an up tempo style of basketball. The key to our success is how well we shoot the ball."

We also asked Coach Yeiser what his expectations are for the team. "My expectations are their expectations, but I expect a successful season. I know this group of guys will compete hard every night."

We asked how prepared he thinks the team is coming right out of football season? He said, "We are not fully prepared, we haven't been over all of what we are going to do offensively and defensively."

We asked how do you feel about being the new coach? He said, "I enjoy it so far, I got a good group of guys with good personalities, and they work hard, as a coach that's what I like.

Fox Foxes Season Summary

The Foxes are in the playoffs once again to see if they have what it takes to make a charge for the Gold Ball. The first game the Foxes will play is at home this Friday night against the defending state champion, the Cherokee Chiefs. We caught up with the three coaches and asked them about the football game on Friday and about the season in general. The first one we interviewed was Coach Spigner. We asked him how he though the defense would hold up against their offense. He replied, "If we attack like we have been, then we will be fine. They have some athletes, but I think we have the better athletes." We also asked if he was going to change the Foxes defense to adjust to Cherokee's offense. He said, "Nothing major, we have played ten games and seven of them were shut outs, so I do not see the need to change what we have been doing."

The next coach we interviewed was Coach Worley. We asked him if he had confidence in his defensive backs. He said, "Yes, very much. They're Seniors and upper class man, so I am not worried." Another question was, if there was somebody that might be a threat on the Cherokee offense, if so, why or why not? He replied, "Henry Washington, number 20. He is athletic and used by the coach in many different ways which makes him a bigger threat." Finally, we asked if he had any plans to stop their offense. He said, "Just take away their money plays and attack them first before they can think what to do next."

Last but not least, we interviewed Coach Phelps. We asked him if the football players were doing any "special training" to go against Cherokee. He said, "No." Next we asked him what it would take to beat Cherokee. He said, "Scoring more points then they do." We also asked if there was a person on there team that he was worried about. He said, "No, because we have eight other guys on the field working together as one unit." Finally, we asked if there was anything else he would like to say anything else? He said, "We are planning on a victory. Throughout the season we have came together as one unit to achieve victories in our previous games. The team is working as hard as they have all year. The team is playing not only physically but also with their hearts. It is not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog that matters."

2011-2012 Junior High Basketball Season Preview

The 2011-2012 basketball season is underway! It started yesterday at Whitebead with the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls participating in the Whitebead Tournament. Both teams played Pioneer and unfortunately started off the season with two losses. We caught up with Coach Spigner and Coach Yeiser about the upcoming junior high season.

The junior high girls are made up of mostly 8th grade girls and Coach Spigner feels like the girls have a lot of athletic ability and if they can put that ability with hard work, togetherness and playing the game, the future is bright for them. "Some times we just need to play the game. We get used to running plays, but to me, the game at this level is about the fundamentals. Dribbling, passing and shooting. Things we need to get better at and things we will get better at as the year progresses."

Coach Yeiser expects success and sees it in his team as well. He says they work and listen. The group he has are an athletic group and are fairly deep. "We've only had three good practices so far. Once we have had some time to go over our offense and defense and our press and press breakers, we will be just fine."

The Junior High Lady Foxes and Foxes next game in the Whitebead Tournament will be this Thursday starting at 3PM and 4PM.

Wendy's Heisman High School Finalist... Dillon Langley

Heisman Hopeful, Dillon Langley

And the Heisman goes to? Words of anticipation that elite college athletes look forward to hearing at some point in their college career. It is also words that one Fox High School student looks forward to hearing before the college Heisman is handed out on ESPN this December. Dillon Langley is one of Oklahoma finalists for the Wendy's High School Heisman. Dillon applied for the Heisman in August and found out today that he is one of only 20 Seniors in the entire state of Oklahoma that was selected as a finalist. Dillon will found out November 4th if he is the state winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman.

Since 1994, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program has honored more than 250,000 of the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors in partnership with the Heisman Memorial Trophy® Committee. The leadership award-honorees are well-rounded young men and woman who excel in learning, performing, and leading in the class room, on the field and in the community.

Like The Heisman Memorial Trophy, the Wendy’s program believes in the pursuit of athletic and academic excellence with integrity. And in addition to honoring student accomplishments, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program inspires all future high school students to pursue their higher education goals.

Every year, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program and The Heisman Memorial Trophy team up to recognize our nation’s most esteemed high school Seniors. The culmination of this process takes place in December in conjunction with the National Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation during Heisman Weekend in New York City. It’s here where Wendy’s selects its National High School Heisman Winners during a broadcast on ESPN networks. This partnership ensures that high school winners enjoy the prestige of national recognition for their tremendous achievements.

There has only been one other Fox student to be nominated and receive the Wendy's state finalist stature and that was Trey Roundtree in the mid to early 2000's. When we asked Dillon about the Heisman, he said, "I feel honored to be chosen for this award. It would be nice to win it, but what I want more is for us to win a state championship this season."

Fox Ballet?

By Dillon Langley and Dalton Langley

Demi-Plie. Port De Bras. Pas de Bourree. Terms that a lot of different ballet students from around the world know and terms that 17 Fox students know. Fox High School has had a ballet class for two weeks. The class was set up for students who were lacking an art credit. The class was taught by Mr. Stringer. He taught the students 5 basic positions of ballet and also some of the history behind ballet.

The students went to a ballet Tuesday to watch the OKC Profesional Ballet perform Coppelia. Coppelia happens to be one of Mr. Wright's favorite ballets and for those of you who did not know Mr. Wright is a huge ballet fan!

Winner of the Door Decorating Competition

By Emily Westervelt and Sherrell Goodwin

The winner of the first annual door decorating competition is........ Mrs. Jones and her third hour class!

When asked how she felt about beating all of the other creative doors, Mrs. Jones replied, "I feel very accomplished." The idea for the door came from an Anderson's magazine she had in her classroom. The winning door only took a matter of three class periods to complete. When asked if she felt any extra pressure on winning since it was her idea for the competition, she replied as she chuckled, " Yes, I felt bullied by Mrs. Smart." Much hard work and effort was put in to the doors by all of the classes.

Congrats, Mrs. Jones!

FCCLA District Meeting

Story By Danielle Morris and Sherrell Goodwin

Tuesday, October 11the, the Fox FCCLA went to Marietta to the District meeting. The schools that attended were Fox, Healdton, Marietta, Marlow, Lone Grove, Madill, Bray Doyle, Plainview, Ringling, Duncan, Mid-American Technology Center and several others. We started out with all of the schools going up on stage and announcing how many members they had and how many pounds of fruits and vegetables they brought for the Loaves and Fishes charity in Ardmore. All together we raised 1309.75 lbs. Maysville was the winning chapter with 178 lbs., we came in a close 2nd place with 168 lbs and 3rd was Marlow with 150 lbs. Afterwards, there was a motivational speaker and went over the changes that FCCLA made this year. We had a good time with a lot of students from the Fox FCCLA Chapter that attended.

Shopping Cart Winner - Mrs. Morse

By Conner Jack and Ethen Eaves

We interviewed the shopping cart float winner, Mrs. Morse and we asked her what it meant to her to be the first ever shopping cart float winner and she replied, "it means a lot to be the first ever winner of the shopping cart float. My kids and parents were super involved in making donations to help us be the #1 cart float. It is a lot of work on top of our school stuff, but it showed a lot of Fox Spirit."

We asked her what all she put into her shopping cart and she said, "We used our red & silver Christmas decorations, a stuffed eagle & a fox, a sparkling bouncing ball and Halloween light up gloves. I had a lot of help from my momma, and Travis Shaw donated the lights. Pam Nichols donated the stuffed animals."

To see a picture of Mrs. Morse's float, look at early posts this week of The Fox Flash Online.

Exchange Student Profile - Mathilde Parez

By Keaton Argo and William Lovely

Mathilde Parez is an exchange student from Belgium, and he speaks French. We asked her what she liked about Fox so far and she said, "It's a small school so everyone knows everyone, and everybody is really nice." We asked her what she looks forward to this year and she said, "I hope to get better at English."

Mathilde did not get to choose what school she wanted to go to, it goes accordingly to where her host family lives, but she is glad that she came here. We asked her what she liked here better then her country and she said, "I really like the food, the big trucks we have here, and the school." An interesting fact about Mathilde is that she broke one of her teeth when she was eight. We asked her if she would like to say anything to the Fox students and she replied, "This is going to be an awesome year!"

Tulsa State Fair

By William Lovely

Last week, I went to the Tulsa State Fair and it was a good experience. The people from Fox that attended were Avery Hoggard, Lawton Loyd, Crystal Watkins, Mr. Kirkpatrick, and your truly. We showed pigs and Avery showed three and got tenth and eighth place. Lawton Loyd was going to show two, but one of his pigs jumped out of the trailer and the results were unfortunately devastating, so he only showed one and did not place. Crystal Watkins showed three and she placed tenth. I showed one and got seventh.

The fair was awesome. There were all type of entertainment including mini-concerts. The bands that played were The Eli Young Band, Mike Posner, and MC Hammer! There were a bunch of rides to keep you entertained and plenty of games as well. I think everyone enjoyed the trip and it was a fun experience.
